tty Command

tty command stands for ( teletype ) the command is to know your terminal . Since UNIX and Linux system have many terminals as files , its reasonable to expect a command that tells you the filename of the terminal you are using .The command is simple and needs no arguments .

1. Basic Example -

The following command Displays terminal name on which you are working .

   $ tty                   
   /dev/pts/03  

The terminal filename is 03 resident in the pts directory . The directory is under the /dev/ directory.
