鋁電解電容器在承載以下負荷時，將造成其特性急劇惡化。
   *反向電壓
   *電壓超過額定值
   *紋波電流超過額定值
   *急速充放電
此時，電容器可能產生大量熱，內部氣壓上升，導致壓力閥開啟，內部氣體噴出，漏液等。
在某些情況下，伴隨電容器損壞會有可燃物的迸發，有可能導致爆炸和起火。
